Last night, I attended the Your Demise / Deez Nutz show in Manchester. I headed into to town for the show with high hopes, I recently purchased Your Demise’s new record ‘Ignorance Never Dies’ and I love it! In my opinion it’s the best heavy British hardcore record released since Knuckledust’s ‘Unbreakable’ I have nothing but respect for Your Demise, they are such a hard working band, constantly touring and writing new records. It’s amazing what they have achieved over the past few years, all their hard work seems to have paid off.
This show was at Satan’s Hollow. It is quite possibly the worst venue in the whole city for Hardcore/Punk/Metal shows. It was originally meant to be at The Music Box (which isn’t much better) but it was moved. If you’re reading this and you’ve never been to Satan’s Hollow, let me explain it to you . . it’s a grim/bizarre little room with a round dance floor in the middle. So the bands play on the dancefloor and you get have to stand around the circle watching them in the round. There is no room to mosh or jump around. Your Demise and tour support ‘Deez Nuts (who are without question the biggest thing in most ‘scene-kids’ lives right now, besides myspace, new-era caps and tight jeans) both bands play heavy metallic hardcore ala Madball, Terror, Hatebreed etc, it’s basically music that is made to make people mosh, but when there is no room to mosh, things can turn nasty.
Lower Than Atlantis and More Than Life had finished their sets, it was now time for Deez Nuts to grace the stage. Deez Nuts are a joke hardcore band, they are clearly just in a band for laughs, it’s amazing how many people consider them a “good band” they are anything but a “good band” As the set starts people are moshing, stage diving etc, then people start walking around on the stage. As the set goes on, more people start walking on the stage, grabbing the mic etc. After few songs, the stage is full of people pushing, shoving, moshing, fighting each other, much to the disapproval of the Your Demise / More Than Life boys who have to stand by and watch these moronic clones push each other towards their equipment. Guys from the bands had to jump on the stage and barricade their own equipment buy pushing crowds of people away from their backline. They were telling people to move between songs and nobody was listening. People were just ignoring them, one guy actually shouted back at George (YD’s vocalist) in retaliation, he spat in his face. These bands are having to protect +£1000 of their own equipment due to these brain-dead scumbags who know fuck all about fuck all. It’s fucking sickening. Pig ignorant pricks. No integrity, no respect for bands, venues or for other human beings. No Unity, no love, nothing but hate. It made things worse when I heard people after the set saying “Ah, that was awesome!” idiots. If you think that type of behaviour is something to be glorified or idolised, then I have no respect for you.
I was so pissed off after witnessing this idiotic behaviour, I left the venue. It’s a shame because I wanted to catch Your Demise, but I did not want to be around these people for another second, I had to get out. It’s funny how you don’t see any of these kids at any other shows, they just seem to crawl out of the woodwork for random bands that are “flavour of the week”. It’s such a shame that some people can’t think for themselves. They just seem willing to open up their eager mouths to swallow any pile of shite that is sent their way. They have to latch onto the next big thing to be accepted. The fact that I have to share a genuine musical interest with these cunts makes me sick to my stomach.
This rant is about the general majority of the people who were at the show last night, I’m sure that there were people there who were genuine, nice, caring people, this rant is just about the majority of the people at the show, so if you’re not an idiot please don’t take offence.
It reminded me of the time when “Game Over” played at The Castle Hotel in Manchester. Their lead singer was encouraging people to smash up the venue, he threw a barstool on the floor smashing it much to the disapproval of a local lad who picked up the chair leg and decided to beat the fuck of the lead singer. I hate violence, but at least that guy learnt his lesson. The Castle Hotel is a historic local venue and the owners were nice enough to lend the venue out to local bands, the last thing you need are bands and people throwing/smashing the place to bits, there is simply no need for it. No respect. It’s disgusting. That same show, this stupid bint threw a stool seat towards the back of the crowd, it nearly hit my friend Amy who at the time was 6months pregnant. I confronted the girl who threw the chair after the show telling her that she nearly hit a pregnant girl and this slag didn’t even apologise. Stupid whore. There are no shows on at The Castel Hotel anymore and I’m not surprised when people act like animals.
The moral of the story, don’t be a fucking idiot. There are already far too many in this world. Unfortunately the UKHC scene seems to be plagued with them.
